Grain Gathering

While attending Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina, my passion for food systems, especially with a focus on grains, was rooting deeper. I built a bicycle-powered grist mill, laminated croissants in the dorm, started gardening club, tried convincing the school farm to grow wheat, biked to a local bakery for my 3 am shift to bake off bagels, & created my own senior seminar around regional grain systems because nothing at the time existed. Since then, "Revitalizing Regional Grain Systems" class has been created in the Sustainable Development department. The High Country Grains Gathering grew out of this class of students and residents of Boone to get to know more about our staple foods and how to support growers in the area working to bring them to our tables.

A celebration of our regional grain chain,

bringing together growers, millers, bakers, makers, and consumers.

Come learn, sample, and stock up for the winter on flours, grits, rice, pastas, & baked goods.

At the Watauga Agriculture Conference Center - same location as the Boone Winter Market (next door to the High Country Food Hub).  252 Poplar Grove Road.
