Opening Stitched Bags

Unless you have worked in a bakery or farm for years, opening the stitch on our grain bags may be confusing, it’s okay!

I have worked with people who have been around grain for years & still open bags by ripping them open below the stitch line. I have been around farm neighbors who have seen me open bags of our seed to fill the grain drill before planting with awe that I didn’t just rip the bag open with my teeth.

If you would prefer to keep aggressively tearing open bags the difficult way, go right ahead. If not, don’t be ashamed to keep reading.

1- The stitch can be released easily by pulling the end thread through the loop. BUT, sometimes the stitching equipment is fussy & leaves a funny end loop so here are some images & descriptions for another way of opening the grain bags, the way we mostly use.

2- Cut the thread from the top left, backside of the bag ( the side of the bag without the label on it).

Then, pull the thread from the front of the bag to release the stitch.
